George Lee Memorial Trophy
The George Lee Memorial Trophy (GLMT) award was introduced in 1981, and was for many years the branch's premier award. It was an award decided in December each year, with the Winner holding the trophy (the GLMT shield) for the whole of the following calendar year.
From 1981/82 to 2019/20 the GLMT Shield was presented annually to the pub, organisation, or person that was considered by branch members to have done the most for real ale locally during the previous calendar year. The award was named in memory of a popular former landlord of the Moorbrook in Preston. The Moorbrook was the branch's birthplace in 1973, with George Lee being the branch's first Treasurer.
Each year the CAMRA Central Lancashire branch committee were tasked to draw up a shortlist of five or six suitable candidates for the award. The winner was then determined by a vote of CAMRA Central Lancashire members who were present at the branch's Christmas Meeting. The successful candidate was presented with the Shield which was then held by them for the whole of the following calendar year. Subsequently they were presented with a GLMT Certificate which was intended to provide them with a lasting record of their achievement in winning the award.
