Black Horse Falls At Final Hurdle
Today there was an announcement from national CAMRA on the outcome of their final judging to select the Pub of the Year 2024 winner. Unfortunately it was not good news for our Finalist, the Black Horse in Preston, with the decision going to the Bailey Head in Oswestry.
The Bailey Head (pictured left) wins the Pub of the Year award for the first time, with national CAMRA describing it as a 'rags-to-riches success story after the owners turned what was once a closed local into a haven for the local community'. In addition to the Black Horse, the other two national Finalists were the Three B's Micropub in Bridlington, and the Little Green Dragon at Winchmore Hill in London.
Although disappointing for Dan Taylor and his team at the Black Horse, it has to be said that it is a great achievement for the pub to be rated one of the best four in the country. CAMRA Central Lancashire branch have been submitting entries for these national Pub of the Year competitions for over 30 years now and this is by far the most successful a local pub has ever been.
