There had been a pub on this site, originally called the Rawsthorne's Arms. The name had been changed to the Steamer Hotel in the late 1800s and the original building later demolished and a modern replacement built on the site. In later years this was a Boddington's pub, which changed its name again to the Fylde Tavern before closing in 2011.

The main photograph shows the pub with Boddington's signage in the late 1980's. The later photograph shows the anonymous nature of so many pubco owned establishments.
