Older Good Beer Guides
The Good Beer Guide is a book published annually by CAMRA to list what are considered to be the best 4,500 real ale outlets (pubs, clubs, and off-licences) in the United Kingdom. The first edition was produced in 1974, and on September 26th 2024 the 2025 Good Beer Guide was published.

Good Beer Guide 2024
The 2024 Good Beer Guide was officially published on September 28th 2023.
There were 33 CAMRA Central Lancashire pubs listed.
Good Beer Guide 2023
The 2023 Good Beer Guide was officially published on October 27th 2022.
There were 35 CAMRA Central Lancashire pubs listed.
Good Beer Guide 2022
The 2022 Good Beer Guide was officially published on November 12th 2021.
There were 33 CAMRA Central Lancashire pubs listed. but ahead of the 2023 Good Beer Guide the following update was notified:-
Brig 'n' Barrel, Bamber Bridge - This pub closed in May 2022, and can be considered a deletion from Good Beer Guide 2022.
Good Beer Guide 2021
The 2021 Good Beer Guide was officially published on October 29th 2020.

Good Beer Guide 2020
The 2020 Good Beer Guide was officially published on September 12th 2019.
There were 34 CAMRA Central Lancashire pubs listed.
Good Beer Guide 2019
The 2019 Good Beer Guide was officially published on September 13th 2018.
There were 34 CAMRA Central Lancashire pubs listed, but ahead of the 2020 Good Beer Guide being produced, the following update was notified:-
Mad Hatters, Preston - This pub is listed in the Good Beer Guide as the Mad Hatters, but during the year was first re-named the PR1 Bar, and then after a short time was subsequently re-named the Speakeasy.
Good Beer Guide 2018
The 2018 Good Beer Guide was officially published on September 14th 2017.
There were 34 CAMRA Central Lancashire pubs listed, but ahead of the 2019 Good Beer Guide being produced, the following updates were notified:-
Ale Station, Chorley - This pub has had a change of opening times and now has different opening hours on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. From September 2017 the revised opening times were - closed Mon; 4pm-11pm Tue-Thu; 2pm-12.30am Fri; 1pm-12.30am Sat; 2pm-11pm Sun. Subsequently there was another slight adjustment to their Friday opening times. From the beginning of 2018 the revised opening times were - closed Mon; 4pm-11pm Tue-Thu; 3pm-12.30am Fri; 1pm-12.30am Sat; 2pm-11pm Sun.
Shepherds' Hall Ale House, Chorley - This pub has had a change of opening times with alterations throughout the week. From the beginning of 2018 the revised opening times are - closed Mon; 2pm-10.30pm Tue; 3pm-10.30pm Wed/Thu; 2pm-11.30pm Fri; 1pm to 11.30pm Sat; 3pm-10.30pm Sun.
Good Beer Guide 2017
The 2017 Good Beer Guide was officially published on September 15th 2016.
There were 35 CAMRA Central Lancashire pubs listed, but ahead of the 2018 Good Beer Guide being produced, the following updates were notified:-
Top Lock, Heapey - This pub was closed for two months and then subsequently re-opened with a change of landlord. It was formally deleted from the Good Beer Guide by a decision taken at the June 5th 2017 committee meeting.
Old Black Bull, Preston - This pub has had a change of landlord, and subsequently the beer choice is much reduced. It was formally deleted from the Good Beer Guide by a decision taken at the June 22nd 2017 branch meeting.
Good Beer Guide 2016
The 2016 Good Beer Guide was officially published on September 10th 2015.
There were 35 CAMRA Central Lancashire pubs listed, but ahead of the 2017 Good Beer Guide being produced, the following update was notified:-
Tillotsons Arms, Chipping - This pub was closed for a few weeks in mid-2016 after the departure of the long-standing landlord. At the July 14th 2016 committee meeting this was discussed, but there was no one present able to provide any more up-to-date information. Shortly after this it was discovered that the pub had re-opened with a new name (see The Tilly's, Chipping), but there was no decision made that it be deleted from GBG 2016.
Good Beer Guide 2015
The 2015 Good Beer Guide was officially published on September 11th 2014.
There were 35 CAMRA Central Lancashire pubs listed, but ahead of the 2016 Good Beer Guide being produced, the following update was notified:-
Malt 'n' Hops, Chorley - This pub was closed for a lengthy period in mid-2015. At the July 7th 2015 committee meeting a decision was made that it should be deleted from the Good Beer Guide. However the deletion was too late in the year for it to be included in a copy of What's Brewing ahead of the 2016 Good Beer Guide being produced.
Good Beer Guide 2014
The 2014 Good Beer Guide was officially published on September 12th 2013.
There were 34 CAMRA Central Lancashire pubs listed, but ahead of the 2015 Good Beer Guide being produced, the following updates were notified:-
Bitter Suite, Preston - This pub is listed in the Good Beer Guide as the Bitter Suite, but during the year was re-named the Ale Emporium.
Boars Head, Barton - This pub has had a change of landlord with there also being a reduction in the beer range available. It was formally deleted from the Good Beer Guide by a decision taken at the January 9th 2014 committee meeting.
Malt 'n' Hops, Chorley - This pub has had a change of opening times and is now opening later on weekdays, and earlier on Saturdays. The revised opening times are 4.30pm-11pm Mon-Thu; 1pm-11pm Fri; 12noon-11pm Sat; 12noon-10.30pm Sun.
Red Lion, Wheelton - This pub has had a change of opening times and does now not open lunchtimes. The revised opening times are 4pm-11pm Mon-Tue; 4pm-11.30pm Wed-Thu; 4pm-12.30am Fri; 3pm-12.30am Sat; 3pm-11pm Sun.
Good Beer Guide 2013
The 2013 Good Beer Guide was officially published on September 13th 2012.
There were 35 CAMRA Central Lancashire pubs listed, but ahead of the 2014 Good Beer Guide being produced, the following updates were notified:-
Swan With Two Necks, Chorley - This pub is closed and was formally deleted from the Good Beer Guide by a decision taken at the September 6th 2012 committee meeting.
Lord Nelson, Croston - This pub was temporarily closed and was formally deleted from the Good Beer Guide by a decision taken at the February 18th 2013 branch meeting. It has since re-opened.
Horns, Goosnargh - This pub has had a change of opening times. On Mondays it is now not opening until 6pm.
Railway At Leyland, Leyland - This pub has had a change of opening times. On weekdays Mondays to Thursdays it is now not opening until 4pm.
Black Bull, Mawdesley - This pub has had a change of landlord with poor beer quality being reported. It was formally deleted from the Good Beer Guide by a decision taken at the June 6th 2013 committee meeting.
